When I learn Hopper has relinquished command of GK Delta I can’t contain my fury. I demand to speak with her privately in my office, and she takes her time. When she finally does arrive, she is far more casual than the typical respectful demeanor she’s shown in the past. This new attitude of hers is perplexing. Could it be her time with the Deltas is making her worse instead of making them better?
“Your orders were to keep the Deltas in line!” I immediately start. “What in the Sam Hill were you thinking relinquishing command?!”
“Working along side Lieutenant El Ray has made me learn to appreciate technology,” she says smugly while pulling a computer tablet from her person.
“Meaning what?” I ask, annoyed. She’s swiping the screen, seemingly distracted like a teenager looking at memes on FaceSpace.
But that’s not it. She plops the tablet down on my desk, and, bright as day, A cat emoji lights up the screen. Lynx’s calling card.
“I found that on El Ray’s Drilldrone controller,” she says. “I told you not to interfere.”
“I brought you into this world, I can take you–” I’m interrupted.
“I’m prepared to die for my honor as a warrior,” she says.
“Fine. So you don’t respect me,” I regain my composure. “You’re still holding classified information and if you give it to the Deltas, you betray your nation and your silly warrior code.”
She glares at me. “That’s a choice I suppose I’ll have to make. Maybe my new family deserves my loyalty.”
“And how long do you think they’ll respect you as ‘family’ when they learn about your past, Agent Hopper?” My words like a dagger in her heart. The shame is apparent in her eyes.
“Tow the line, Hopper.” I command.
