Losing command of GK Delta has some benefit. We’re in transit to the Nevada Air National Guard base and I have some free time to devote to my journal.

Hopper’s arrival has obviously disrupted the way we do things in GK Delta. It’s making me wonder if these changes weren’t inevitable and maybe even necessary. It seems to be a welcome change for all of us except myself and maybe Albert VII. And the only reason Albert VII doesn’t welcome it is because he’s made it clear to me he’s indifferent.

As soon as Daart heard Hopper say she’d make him a “great soldier,” I could see him grin. He tried to hide it from me, but he did a poor job at it. Daart’s overeager to be a hero and forgets about the life and death choices we sometimes have to make.

Nevertheless, I’m duty bound to follow chain of command, and I respect her as a soldier. Still, I can’t help but go into this mission with apprehension.

During drills today, I noticed she was using Laido swordsmanship techniques similar to that of samurai. I asked her where she learned it and it was the first time I’d seen her stumble for an answer. It continued gnawing at the back of my mind when I finally recalled that she also snapped at Daart the first day when he asked about Japan,. She is hiding something about her time in Japan.

Is it a personal matter or is she being ordered to keep things from us?
